Welcome!

A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

Dear colleagues:

We shared such wonderful experiences with all SOGC members, staff, board members, and industry representatives on this first return in-person to our Western Canada conference! For starters, getting to see each other, talking, eating, visiting exhibitors who had a lot to say, and meeting new faces, young and dynamic members, future leaders, authors of our guidelines, and even department heads. It was a delight!

What more could you ask for at such a picturesque site? The beauty of these grandiose mountains has given us the strength to forget two years of suffering and to regain confidence in our Society, which advocates for access to quality care for all Canadian women, but also humbly supports our members who are running on fumes and need to recharge their batteries after two very difficult years. Many of you were also very active through online participation and we would like to thank you.

Circumstances are very difficult as an obstetrician-gynaecologist or a health care professional today, with a shortage of staff that is slow to improve. It is even more difficult for patients who are still waiting for consultations or surgery. We will be there for you and for these women and girls who entrust us with their daily secrets.

I believe that our strengths as a group can make a difference by combining our knowledge and skills to get back on track to providing excellent services against all odds. In fact, we have learned during the plenary session on physicians’ responsibility for waiting lists that some provinces have already implemented strategies to reduce surgery waiting lists.

With humility and determination, I have presented my vision of the changes that will be needed to recover and hit our stride in this new post-pandemic era.

We also had a hybrid Board of Directors; a new format which will soon become part of our daily lives. Today’s technology allows us to boost participation from all our busy members, as working hours can be highly restrictive.

Such success in this beautiful region in the West is obviously our greatest calling card. We will be ready to welcome you to an exceptional ACSC (June 7-10) in the beautiful city of Quebec with a genuinely stimulating program and riveting meetings on site or in person… however possible. Without question, learning together will now take on a new meaning! Every crisis brings opportunities; come meet the Board of Directors and myself to share your great achievements and ideas!

See you soon!
