Fall is nearly over: things have gone so fast since the end of summer! The SOGC worked continuously on important issues in relation to women’s obstetrical and gynaecological care.

CME ONTARIO
This year the program focuses on gynaecological outpatient surgery and advanced obstetric management of 2nd stage. There will be 10 gynaecology workshops and 10 obstetrics workshops. December 1-2 at Hilton Toronto, with discounted group rates from $215 per night, until November 6. Register now!
SOGC MEDICAL EDUCATOR’S DAY
Optimizing of the learning environment and prioritizing trainee education are essential in preparing medical students and residents for a successful career in the practice of obstetrics and gynaecology. Simulation, gamification, and EPAs are being used by Canadian medical educators in creative ways to enhance education and faculty development, and this day aims to highlight the incredible teachers and lifelong learners of our OBGYN educator community. WORLD PREMATURITY DAY
On November 17, the SOGC is taking a moment to show compassion and support for families who have experienced the anxiety of a premature birth by observing World Prematurity Day. This event reminds us of our job to reassure parents of what awaits babies who are born too early and the health challenges that they may face as they grow up.

Abstracts will be on display at the SOGC’s 2023 Annual Clinical and Scientific Conference and published in the May 2023 issue of the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada. THE DAYMARK FOUNDATION
The Daymark Foundation has granted the SOGC $124,000 over two years to study and make recommendations about perinatal mental health data in Canada. The study will explore existing national datasets, analyze contents of provincial and territorial databases, and recommend standardized data capture at the healthcare provider level and the jurisdictional level.
CANCER MANAGEMENT OPTIONS FOR BRCA MUTATION CARRIERS
A CIHR-funded study needs your input because you are involved in the management of women at high risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Currently, there are differences in the uptake of cancer-preventive options by women with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation. We would like to determine why these differences exist. We are interested in determining if health care provider recommendations have an influence on the uptake of cancer preventive options. SOGC MEDICAL STUDENT JOURNAL CLUB
This student-led journal club is an opportunity for medical students across the country to meet every two months to review impactful papers and research in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Through attending these journal clubs, students will learn about literature in the field and collaborate with like-minded students. They will also develop critical appraisal skills and a wider knowledge of various methodologies and research supporting clinical decision making.
These sessions will be hosted once every two months through Zoom. The format of the program will consist of two 25-minute sessions including a presentation of the selected article followed by a discussion of related topics.

SURVEY ABOUT MEDICAL CANNABIS
| The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and the Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN) are investigating health care provider perspectives on medical cannabis. The purpose of this study is to learn about education and training in cannabinoid-based medicine; knowledge and attitudes toward medical cannabis; experiences prescribing cannabis, including barriers and facilitators; cannabis legalization impacts; and impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on patient needs and clinical practice. All participants will provide consent before completing the 10-minute online survey. Eligible participants must be over 18 years old, comfortable completing an online survey in English, and be a Physician, Resident, Nurse, or Pharmacist in Canada. Learn more |
