Well said Doug!
Healthcare “systems” are the most complex of human endeavours. We need a new and effective system that is at arm’s length from the provincial politicians who, unfortunately for Canadians, do not choose to make change that has a window well beyond the next election cycle. More federal money to the provinces without fundamental accountability to all health quality metrics is not the solution. We have too many disparate, dysfunctional health systems in Canada.
The SOGC and others need to be engaged to look to other successful models (look to Europe not the USA) to determine a system that is acceptable to Canadians but one that is effective for all. What we have at present is close to if not already broken but can be repaired with less politics and more legitimate stakeholder input.
