On the CEO side – Septembre 2023

Fall is here again, and we are resuming our academic activities! A great program awaits for SOGC members, and after several post-pandemic changes, the team is almost complete. This will allow us to finally bring our projects to fruition.

We have made large strides in governance by starting to update our policies, which you will soon find on our website in the member section. We have a new Governance Advisor & Board Secretary, Ms. Maram Ghanayem, who joined the SOGC on September 11, 2023. We have revised our regulations, mandates, and Committee participant lists. I have extended messages of gratitude to these participants on your behalf. We have also reviewed our practices to be more efficient and effective during our meetings in order to optimize your precious time with shorter and better prepared meetings.

Due to popular demand, we are bringing back free webinars for members. We will cover current topics in both English and French with the possibility of asking questions in both languages. Thank you to all of you who suggested clinical themes to us: the best questions always come from the field!

Our regional conferences are going well, the enthusiasm of early registrations encourages the team to try new concepts such as the 2nd summit on menopause. Our experts have shown us that they are not afraid of any questions and that they will make their recommendations to you even when science does not allow us to answer with a yes or no.

Finally, we will support Dr. Black, our president, throughout the year in her commitment with our partners to obtain free access to contraception for all Canadians. The August petition was a good start, September will have its day on Parliament Hill to prepare for World Contraception Day on September 26. We are revising our educational materials for girls, women, and members of the LGBTQ community. There is also still lots of education to be done for healthcare professionals on managing side effects. To each their own method and without a bill! We have a great list of events coming up throughout the year on the theme of contraception. You will be well-equipped to handle even the most complex cases.
