On the CEO side – Special Edition
Dear colleagues,
As the new year begins, our great management team is now complete with the arrival of a new Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Kelsey MacDonald. [Click here for her biography]. We’re already hard at work on our plans for 2024.
Over the next 6 months, our three main priorities will be to reconnect with our members and offer them services and activities tailored to the needs of obstetrics and gynecology practice in 2024. As we are all inundated with multiple emails, it can sometimes be difficult to remember all the new and rapidly changing clinical guidelines.
The enthusiasm generated by our guidelines is a source of pride for our organization. However, we are working on the deployment of an application that will simplify your life, especially in the middle of the night! This project must evolve to meet your needs. To avoid any excessive financial impact, we’ll be following a step-by-step approach, gradually adding tables and figures that will be useful to you on a daily basis. Your feedback is essential to optimize the final product.
Speaking of guidelines, after updating our committees’ governance and by-laws, the next step will be to find a new way of keeping constantly up to date with new publications, through more frequent updates, while responding to your needs in the field to clarify or mark out certain sometimes questionable clinical conduct and decisions. We’ll be calling on our experts in the academic world more and more, to make decisions when science creates grey areas, but our clinical decisions require a binary answer – a yes or a no!
Unfortunately, we have learned from the CMPA that the number of lawsuits and complaints is on the rise. Rigorous application of the guidelines will be your lifeline to avoid unpleasant conversations, and to that end we will be stepping up our pace of revision and updating. One example is the creation of an application with easy-to-use tools.
Finally, we’re continuing to explore our range of services, notably through our webinars, summits and regional continuing education courses, with the aim of keeping you up to date with national and international news. A survey to this effect will be sent to you in the coming weeks. I also encourage you to revisit our online courses section. I personally used the material from our three training courses on trans health and care, as I had been asked to present Canadian approaches in India. They’re simply outstanding!
It’s going to be a great year, and remember, we’re the SOGC! 😉
