Do You Have FIGO Fever?

With the time change, the dark autumn days, an astronomical budget deficit, a Quebec government placing pressures on medical specialists and maternity wards closing across the country — the gloom has certainly set in. It’s time to lift our spirits!

We are beginning to organize this exciting project, which will take place in Montréal from Oct. 31 to Nov. 5, 2027. Mark your calendars now! This major gathering in North America will showcase to the world who we are, and above all, affirm that in Canada, women’s and LGBTQ+ sexual and reproductive rights are part of our national DNA.

It will also be a wonderful opportunity for us, dear Canadian colleagues, to demonstrate that — despite deficits, politics and climate challenges — the excellence of the care we provide and teach remains at the heart of our daily work. Like our ancestors who braved Canada’s harsh climate, we continue to hold up a wavering health care system and perform small miracles every day to keep caring for our patients.

We will have a FIGO booth at the Ontario CME in Toronto to kick things off — be sure to come and meet us! Dr. Marc-Yvon Arsenault, who will chair the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), is looking for about 10 local volunteers from across Canada to suggest ideas for social, scientific, community, athletic and even political activities. This is your chance to show the world who we are!

We will also need Canadian representatives to join the Scientific Program Committee (SPC), chaired by Dr. Ranee Thakar, who is completing her term as President of the RCOG, and the Congress Organizing Committee (COC), chaired by Dr. Ernesto Castelazo, who will oversee funding for this major event, which is expected to host 10,000 participants.
