Message from the President March 2024

8 Mar, 2024

Throughout the month of March, we have several exciting highlights that we want to celebrate!

A Milestone Celebration – National Pharmacare and Universal Contraception: The announcement of inclusion of contraception as one of two classes of medication covered under a single-payer National Pharmacare Framework marks a significant step forward in reproductive health and rights. This will ensure that Canadians have the freedom to make informed choices about their reproductive health without financial barriers. A special acknowledgement to the collaborative work and efforts of the teams at Project EmpowHer, Action Canada, UBC, and CART-GRAC.

March is World Endometriosis Month: March is a time to raise awareness about endometriosis, a condition that affects approximately 200 million worldwide. We need to educate, support, push for research and provide hope and better care for those who are affected. The Government of Canada announced a grant for the SOGC to help improve awareness of endometriosis, access to vital Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) services and reduce barriers to care by developing resources for people living with endometriosis and health care providers.

A Huge Thank You to SOGC Nominees! A massive shout-out to everyone who threw their hat in the ring during our recent call for nominations. Your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute are what make the SOGC vibrant and dynamic. We’re looking forward to welcoming new faces and fresh perspectives to our various committees and the board of directors!

Membership Reminder: If your SOGC membership renewal slipped your mind, now’s the perfect time to tick it off your list. Stay connected and stay involved! You are all vital to our mission of promoting excellence in obstetrics and gynecology and advancing the health of women at home and around the world. We are stronger together!

March Break: To our members planning a March break, we wish you a restful and enjoyable time. We hope you return feeling refreshed and rejuvenated (and for those of you who have already taken a break, welcome back!)

Looking forward to seeing what the rest of March holds!
